BRCA Round 4 - Mendip

posted on 29 July 2008 | posted in Race Reports

BRCA Round 4 - Mendip Dez Chand reports from a fantastically sunny weekend at Mendip.

The Mendip circuit was in perfect condition and with track temperatures exceeding 40C early indications from Saturday's testing were that all records would be broken. But by who?

Saturdays Superpole was won by Jimbo running a Supersport for the first time, who was the only one to run warm tyres, hmm, tyres warmers anyone? Formby donated a can of the new CML Flexi Tuff Stuff and it was hard fought over with the most popular Superpole so far, even the 1/8ths and sidecars took part!

Chris Groom is an IT Security Consultant found one of his suppliers receptive to the idea of sponsoring the bike section to the tune of a laptop and printer so they are now able to run their own meetings, without having to burden the host club with the job of running race control. Installed with the latest BBK timing software, the section is now fully independent. Many thanks to Chris Groom for brokering the deal, and to IDSEC - Network Intelligence and Security, for supplying the equipment to the BRCA Bike Section.

Thanks to Mirage, a set of the new GRP Bike tyres goes to the McLarney Daytona Superbike driven and painted by Derek McLarney himself, a superbly detailed Fila Ducati indeed, congrats!

Stock Class

Dave Richard was on a roll, narrowly missing the Stock bike race record but putting in several new lap records with a best of 32.27 in the final round to secure pole position and take both wins in style, overhauling Scott and Ken Napper in the process..

Newcomer Fred Martin and Matt Book took a win a piece in the Stock B final, with Fred taking the overall victory by the slightest of margins, Carl Lister taking the final podium place in third.

In the A Finals there was never any doubt who was going to run away with it, as Dave soon headed early leader Scott to put his McLarney round in fine style for a brace of fine wins ahead of new comer Ken Napper in the first leg and Dave Hall in the second, who completed the podium accordingly.

Supersport

Chris Douglas looked to have pole position sewn up, but soon James had pipped him and narrowly missed out on a 14 lapper whilst setting the fastest Supersport lap of the whole weekend with a 31.447 second lap. Dave Scouse broke the 14 lap barrier for the first time, snatching pole position and went on to fend them all off to take the overall win, even though Jimbo won leg two.

Nitro

Jimbo set a new lap record for Nitro bikes with his KP on his way to winning the A Final, Ken Gospel now leads the Championship after Colin's run of Bad luck continues.

Superbike

Jevon Frost set the Superbike paddock alight by taking the battle to Dave and Colin, taking the overall win with a fine display.

Steve Newey presented the “Formby Dollars” to the top three in each A final and we all headed for the M5 quick before the big beach party at Weston-Super-Mare choked the roads up.
